Odumak Weather
Odumak Weather is an Android weather app developed by BS Planet. It adds outfit suggestions, the 24 solar terms, moon phases and air quality to the temperature and precipitation forecast, and computes its values on the device from public weather data. It is a native app written in Kotlin and Compose, free of charge, with no in-app purchase, subscription, account, login or license key. No advertisement covers the screen; video ads play only inside Super Boost, which the user opens.
Features
- Outfit suggestions: combines temperature with nine weather conditions to propose top, bottom, footwear and accessories, adding an umbrella for rain forecasts and a mask when particulate levels are bad or worse. Heat and severe cold carry separate warnings, and several outfits are offered to choose from
- Short-term precipitation: notices such as "rain starting in about 20 minutes" or "raining now, stopping in about 30 minutes", distinguishing snow from rain
- 24 solar terms: days until the next term with Chinese characters, a full list with explanations. Term times are computed in the app from the solar longitude
- Air quality: PM10 and PM2.5 in the grade colors of the Korean air quality standard, together with ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide and the UV index
- Forecasts: hourly forecast with a temperature graph, precipitation bars for the next six hours, a daily forecast of 7, 10, 14 or 16 days, and the difference from the same hour yesterday. Touching a value in the detail table explains it
- Activities for the next three hours: running, cycling, walking, stargazing, camping, hiking and golf are rated good, fair or not advised from the forecast for the next three hours
- Radar and typhoon tracks: rain clouds and their direction are drawn over a map; a typhoon's past path is solid and its forecast path dashed
- Moon: phase, illumination (%), moonrise and moonset, days to full moon. Phases are drawn shapes rather than emoji, so device fonts do not affect them
- Local time: the main screen shows the date and time of the place being viewed, on an analog or a digital clock
- World weather: 27 major cities across six continents by default, each with its local time and date; cities can be searched and added, removed and reordered
- Also: GPS current location, multiple cities, home screen widget (four layouts by cell size), opt-in notifications (morning summary, precipitation, air quality, severe weather), status bar temperature, six daily-life indices, weather sharing, offline cache, seven designs, four text sizes, °C/°F and 12/24h switching, thirteen display sections that switch on and off, and a background drawn from the weather and the time of day (layered depth, response to touch, ground that follows the season)
- Lab: the Weather diary and Cities side by side are always available without an ad in the Lab group of the settings. The diary saves the weather of the moment as a page with a one-line note; a page holds up to four photos and, when opened, redraws that day's sky. A calendar and a look-back find past days, the diary can be saved to a file the user chooses and restored, and entries stay on the device. Cities side by side puts the place being viewed next to another city and compares temperature, feels-like, sky, high and low, humidity and wind
- Super Boost: a video ad the user starts and watches to the end makes the scene effects one step richer for 24 hours. Scene effects are ten effects laid over the sky, and a panel sets each to off, standard or rich. The standard level is visible to everyone without watching an ad, rich can be chosen while Super Boost is open, and an effect appears only in its own weather. It is offered once a day. The forecast and every other function work without watching an ad. While an ad plays, the advertising identifier, IP address and device information are sent to Google.
The interface is available in nine languages: Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese.
Data sources and privacy
Forecasts and observations come from Open-Meteo (secondary: wttr.in), air quality from Open-Meteo Air Quality (CAMS), precipitation radar from RainViewer, map tiles from OpenStreetMap and typhoon information from GDACS, with the responding source shown on each screen. Location coordinates are used only to look up weather and maps and are not stored off the device. Details are governed by the published privacy policy.
Distribution
