Privacy Policy

CallNote (com.bsplanet.callnote) · Effective date: 2026-09-25

This page is an English translation. The Korean version is the official text, and it prevails if the two versions differ.

1. Principles

This Privacy Policy (the "Policy") sets out how personal information is handled in CallNote (the "App"), provided by BS Planet (the "Company").

The App operates on the principle of on-device processing. The Company does not collect, receive, store or transmit your content, such as your recordings, transcripts and search index. All processing, including recording, transcription through speech recognition and search indexing, takes place on your device, and the results are not sent to the Company's servers. Accordingly, the Company is not a personal information controller under the Personal Information Protection Act with respect to your content.

We state the scope precisely, however. This section previously said that the App "does not collect any personal information." When rewarded ads were introduced on September 13, 2026, that sentence became too broad. When you watch an ad, the ad provider processes your advertising ID and approximate device information. Details are given in section 5-1 below. Our commitment regarding recordings and transcripts is unchanged. They do not leave your device by any route.

2. Information processed on your device

The following information is processed and stored only on your device and is not sent outside it.

InformationPurposeWhere it is stored
Call and voice recording filesDiscovery, playback, transcription, searchYour device's storage
Files recorded with the AppPlayback, transcription, searchThe App's private storage on the device (other apps cannot read it, and it is deleted when you uninstall the App)
Transcript text and search indexSearching the content of recordingsThe App's private database on the device

The App does not use automatic backup (allowBackup=false), and the information above is not backed up or transferred to the cloud.

3. Permissions

The App uses the following permissions and requests each one when you first use the related feature. It does not request them all at once at startup. If you deny a permission, the App still works within a reduced scope. For example, if you deny the microphone permission, only in-app recording is restricted, and you can still discover, play and search call recordings stored on your device.

The App does not require contacts or call log permissions. The other party and the time of a call are determined from the file name alone. The manifest of the release build does not declare those permissions, and an automated check enforces this.

4. Network communication (exceptions)

The App connects to the internet only in the following four cases, and in none of them are your recordings or transcripts transmitted.

  1. Downloading speech recognition and translation models. When you explicitly request it, the App downloads publicly available model files once. This is a download of public assets, not an upload of data.
  2. Required communication by third-party on-device components. Please see section 5 below.
  3. Recognition communication for voice search. If your device supports forced on-device recognition (API 33 or later with a language pack installed), the audio does not leave your device. If it does not, the default Android speech recognizer is used, and the search terms you speak (the spoken audio) may be sent to the servers of the recognition provider (for example, Google). This route is not used when “Block network” is turned on in Settings, and if on-device recognition is not available in that case, the App does not start voice search and tells you so. While listening, the screen shows whether the recognition is taking place on the device. Stored recordings and transcripts are never sent through this route. What may be sent is limited to what you say for the search.
  4. Communication for ads and ad consent. This applies only to versions obtained through an app store. When you watch an ad to receive a 24-hour pass, and when consent is requested in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, your advertising ID and device information are sent to Google. Versions obtained through a distribution channel announced by the Company do not include the ad components at all, so this route does not exist in them. For details, please see section 5-1 below.
Versions obtained through an app store check with the store whether a newer version is available. That check is performed by the store app on your device, so it is not one of the four cases above. The App itself does not download or install installation files. Updates are provided through the channel from which you installed the App (an app store or a distribution channel announced by the Company), and the way updates work may differ depending on that channel.

5. Third-party on-device component (Google ML Kit)

The transcript translation and language detection features use the Google ML Kit on-device component. Translation is performed on the device, so the input text is not sent to Google's servers. However, under its own terms and policies, this component may send limited information, such as diagnostics and usage metrics, to Google, and this information may be processed on servers outside your country. This is information that Google processes as the provider, and details are governed by Google's policies. Translation results are shown together with the notice "Powered by Google Translate".

5-1. Ads and payment

Since September 13, 2026, versions downloaded from a store offer two ways to use the App. You can watch one ad and use the App for one day, or make a one-time payment for lifetime ownership. The first five runs open without any condition, and when your cumulative usage time reaches one hour, you are offered the same choice at that point as well. Whichever of the two limits is reached first applies.

Ads

Ads are provided by Google AdMob. When you watch an ad, your advertising ID, approximate device information, approximate location (country level), interactions with the ad (impressions, taps and whether it was played), and information on how the ad component operates (diagnostic information) may be passed to the ad provider. This is used to serve ads, measure ad performance and prevent fraudulent clicks.

In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, we ask for your consent before requesting an ad. If you do not consent, no ad is requested, and in that case the option of unlocking a day by watching an ad is not available. You can withdraw your consent later. You can reset or delete your device's advertising ID in the Android settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect lifetime ownership, the first five runs or the one hour of free use.

Payment

The Company does not receive or store your payment method information, including your card number. The App only checks whether a purchase has been made in order to decide whether to open.

Payments and refunds follow the procedures of the store from which you obtained the App. If you obtained the App through a store, that store's terms and refund policy also apply. Versions obtained through a distribution channel announced by the Company have no in-app payment.

6. Retention and deletion

Your data exists only on your device. You can delete and destroy it yourself by uninstalling the App or by using the in-app trash (which is cleaned up automatically and permanently deleted after the retention period). The Company holds none of your information to retain or destroy.

7. Children's personal information

Because the App does not collect personal information, it does not collect personal information from children.

8. User's responsibility to comply with the law

You are responsible for recording and processing only calls and conversations in which you take part. You must follow the recording and privacy laws of the place where you live and of the place where the call takes place. Recording a conversation between other people in which you do not take part, without authorization, may be illegal and may be subject to criminal penalties, and sharing or distributing another person's voice or its transcript without their consent may infringe their personality rights, such as the right to their voice. For details, please see section 9 of the in-app Terms of service. For users in the Republic of Korea, the Communications Secrets Protection Act applies. Its original text is available at the Korea Law Information Center (in Korean).

10. Notice of changes

If this Policy changes, the Company will announce the effective date and the changes in advance through an in-app notice or on this page.

11. Governing law

This Policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea.
